Aurélie Tercier (she/her) is a circus artist and hand balancer from Switzerland. With a curious mind, she likes to explore hand balancing in combination with objects. Interacting with things ranging from smaller objects that can be manipulated with her feet, to bigger structures offered by the surroundings that enable her to lean or hang while still standing on her hands. She is inspired by installation art and its intricacies, which she translates into her physicality. She often bases her work on personal experiences, which she approaches with a touch of humour. Next to her solo practice, she likes to collaborate with other artists on stage, and to work with the power of interactions between different bodies and different individuals. When sharing the stage with others, she also does partner acrobatics.

Aurélie grew up between the mountains of Switzerland, in the French speaking area.

Her experience with circus started at the age of 10, when she joined the local youth circus. She maintained this practice as a hobby for many years, whilst also studying biology at the University of Lausanne. There she found a great interest for the small and the detailed, but also for sharing what she learnt with other people.

After obtaining her diploma in 2016, she decided to give more room to her expression. She gave her main focus to her circus practice and chose to explore how to communicate in a physical way. She spent one year in the youth circus LeZarti’Cirque in Ste-Croix to improve her circus skills, with the goal to enter a higher circus education.

In 2017, she swapped the Swiss mountains for the Dutch, somewhat flatter, landscape and started her studies at Codarts Circus Arts in Rotterdam. There she improved her hand balancing skills with the support from Nick van der Heyden and Juan Liu, and discovered her interest for including objects, which she uses as tools to explore different vocabularies in the discipline. She likes to use circus technique in combination with physical theatre to connect with the audience and invite them to follow her curious mind.

After graduating from Codarts in 2022, Aurélie is now based in France and works internationally both as a solo artist and in the duo Lemon Press Collective together with the circus artist and object manipulator Mika Schnapper.
